Carolyn’s wise reminder: as cities and towns begin to open up again, personal protective gear will be in need more than ever, as everyone begins navigating how to safely share space again.

“Despite what you may have heard from the government, the PPE crisis is far from over. Masks and shields are still being used for days or even weeks at a time. Protective gowns, gloves, and disinfecting wipes are still difficult to obtain in the quantities we need.

As businesses open up they too will need these items to protect themselves and the situation will only continue to worsen. And let’s not forget we need to be diligent in preparing for the strong possibility of a second wave in the upcoming months. No nurse, doctor, respiratory therapist, or other healthcare worker should be putting their life on the line to care for a patient because we don’t have the necessary PPE.

We are not martyrs.”

As the United States begins the unnerving process of slowly opening back up it's important to remember our battle against Covid 19 is far from over. I, like everyone, am anxious for things to go back to some semblance of normal. I'd love a haircut, a pedicure, and to aimlessly roam the aisles of Home Goods for hours. But we have to remember how far we have come and the price we have paid to get to where we are now. The war against corona virus has been fought by all Americans, but without a doubt the healthcare heroes and other essential workers have been battling on the front lines. All too often without the armor we desperately need-PPE. Despite what you may have heard from the government, the PPE crisis is far from over. Masks and shields are still being used for days or even weeks at a time. Protective gowns, gloves, and disinfecting wipes are still difficult to obtain in the quantities we need. No nurse, doctor, respiratory therapist, or other healthcare worker should be putting their life on the line to care for a patient because we don't have the necessary PPE. We are not martyrs. We want to do our jobs safely and come home to our families knowing we were protected. We can't do that without the government ensuring every essential worker has the proper amount of PPE. We deserve that much. Visit the On The Frontlines @frontlinevoices or visit www.voicesfromthefrontline.org to find out how you can lend your voice to the cause.
